PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection device capable of effectively reducing deceleration applied on an occupant in collision. SOLUTION: A seat 1 is furnished with a seat widthward drive mechanism 14B and a seat depthward drive mechanism 14A to support the seat under a frame 13 and to drive the seat in widthward and depthward directions. The seat depthward (widthward) drive mechanism drive mechanism has a spring 9A (9B), a DC motor 4A (4B), a pinion gear 8A (8B) and a rack rail 3A (3B), and it is possible to drive the seat in the depthward direction (widthward direction) by spring force and rotation of the motor. A control unit 21 drives the DC motor by electric power accumulated in a capacitor 6 so that the seat deceleration matches with a specified pattern by releasing the spring 9A (9B), moving the seat backward (inward widthwise) and controlling the motor driving circuit 5A (5B) when detecting a collision through signals from a collision sensor 32.
