A sensor 42d is provided for detecting release of a state of a workpiece fixed and held with workpiece holding members during rotation of a spindle 9. When the release of the state of the wokpiece fixed and held is detected, the sliding members are driven in a direction of an axial center (in a direction as shown by an arrow D) by a reciprocating drive means 42.
