<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing reliable cleaning without giving damage to a photosensitive drum and without giving rise to an image defect due to image size mismatching. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a plurality of image carriers respectively carrying toner images, a moving body, a plurality of transfer means for electrostatically transferring the toner images on the respective image carriers to the moving body or the transfer material carried on the moving body, and a plurality of recovering means for respectively recovering the toners on the respective image carriers. The apparatus has a cleaning mode of the moving body for transferring and moving the toner images on the moving body to the image carriers by applying a bias of the polarity reverse at least to one of the transfer means, and has a means for comparing the video signal information of an image to print with the actual size of the paper sheet on which it is to be printed and determines the execution or non-execution of the above cleaning mode based on the result of the judgment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
