PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively detecting a nucleic acid represented by a specific base sequence contained in a sample derived from a specimen.

SOLUTION: The method for detecting a nucleic acid represented by a specific base sequence in a specimen comprises preparing a sample containing a nucleic acid to be examined from a specimen, using a set of polynucleotides designed to specifically amplify the whole or a part of the nucleic acid represented by the specific base sequence as a primer, carrying out an asymmetric PCR for the sample, adding a polynucleotide probe to a reaction solution used in the asymmetric PCR, carrying out hybridization reaction and detecting presence of an amplified fraction by the presence of hybridization.
