PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spectrometer and a wavelength shift amount detector which are made compact and strong, and to remove required frequent calibrations for the conventional spectrometer and wavelength shift amount detector. SOLUTION: The chip-size wavelength detector 1000 is realized by using a laterally varying transmission film 100 which a transmission property is changing in the lateral direction position on its film and a position sensitive photodetector 300 which can detect light incident position. The wavelength which reaches the position sensitive photodetector 300, penetrating through the laterally varying transmission film 100, becomes different in the lateral direction position of the laterally varying transmission film 100. Namely, the light is incident on the position sensitive photodetector 300, penetrating through which position of the laterally varying transmission film 100. The wavelength of its light can be detected by checking a light spot formation position in a lateral direction position x on the position sensitive photodetector 300. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
