PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder which can be manufactured easily and which can be compactly constituted, and to provide a wheel bearing device equipped with the same. SOLUTION: The magnetic encoder 9 includes a multipole magnet 10, in which magnetic poles N and S are alternately formed with respect to the circumferential direction and an annular core metal 11 for supporting the multipole magnet 10. The core metal 11 has the shape, having a cylindrical part 11a and a standing plate part 11b extending from an end of the cylindrical part 11a toward the radial direction. The multipole magnet 10 is positioned along the surface of the protruding side of the cylindrical part 11a in the standing plate part 11b of the core metal 11. The overall circumference of the multipole magnet 10 is magnetized, by magnetizing it in a bare state that does not have the core metal 11. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
