An article of footwear (100) is disclosed that includes an upper (110) and a sole structure (120) secured to the upper. The sole structure has a midsole element (130) that defines a void, and the void may extend substantially vertically through a central area of the midsole element. The void (135) may also extend between an upper surface (131) and a lower surface (132) of the midsole element to define an interior surface (134). A plurality of bores (136a-136e) are also defined in the midsole element. The bores may extend substantially horizontally through the midsole element, and the bores may extend between an exterior surface of the midsole element and the void.
