PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device which stores a part-of-speech information on the input character strings and a field information to use them for narrowing the selection of input candidates in the next input mode and also uses character string having the cooccurrence relation with the input character strings, character strings to be paired with the input character strings and character strings which are related to each other by the attribute defined by the thesaurus information as the input candidates. SOLUTION: An auxiliary information updating part 2 retrieves a part-of- speech dictionary part 7 via a part-of-speech dictionary retrieval part 6 based on the character strings inputted via an input part 5 and stores the character strings in an input candidate storage part 1 together with the part-of-speech information as the auxiliary information on the character strings. The auxiliary information includes date information, frequency information and priority information in addition to the part-of-speech in information. An input candidate management part 3 selects the character strings serving as the input candidates out of those input characters stored in the part 1 based on the auxiliary information and shows these selected character strings via an input candidate display part 4. |
