PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorine-containing copolymer having a high refractive index and a low wavelength dispersion. SOLUTION: The fluorine-containing copolymer has a unit based on (A) anα-trifluoromethyl acrylate having an organic group with a 5-10 membered alicyclic ring structure and a unit based on (B) a vinyl monomer. The copolymer makes a well balanced optical material having low light scattering and absorption, high transparency, a high refractive index and a low wavelength dispersion. As the copolymer is soluble to solvents and thermally processable, it is shaped from the solution using methods such as coating, solution casting and spinning and from the melt using methods such as covering, melt casting and spinning. As the copolymer has a low water absorption, its moldings are least liable to warp due to water absorption and hence exhibit an excellent dimensional stability. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
