PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system for enabling a user to display a browsing display screen by commanding a program guide. SOLUTION: The browsing display screen includes a movable highlighted region, a video window containing a television program to which the system is tuned currently, and a current program list including the detailed description of a highlighted program list item. The user can position the highlighted display region by using the cursor key of a remote control. After that, the user can synchronize the content of the video window with the highlighted program list item by pressing a selection key or a channel up-and-down key. Even if the user uses the channel up-and-down key for changing a channel repeatedly, the contents of the video window and the highlighted program listings remain in synchronization.
