Preparation of substrate useful for solar cells by elctrodeposition onto a mechanical carrier having a crack- and pore-free diffusion barrier Cr layer of thickness 0.1-10 micron and a crack- and-pore free back contact layer in Mo or Mo alloy of layer thickness 0.1-10 micron. An independent claim is included for a solar cell substrate as described above.
