The method involves generating signals depending on the state of each sensor or operating element connected, and supplying them to a common bus line. A selection device is provided for each signal current, for preventing current from flowing into the bus line. The control of all selection devices ensures that only the signal current from a single sensor or operating element flows into the bus line. The bus line is connected to an evaluation device for evaluation the signal current flowing in the bus line. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for carrying out the method.
