<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber strand which has a small distribution difference in the radial direction of the residual stress of the optical fiber strand and which is capable of suppressing Rayleigh scattering, too, and also to provide a manufacturing method in which a proper slow-cooling temperature can be applied to the bare optical fiber without requiring a long slow-cooling length even in the case of high speed drawing of the optical fiber strand. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber strand includes a core part and a clad part composed of at least one or more clad layers surrounding the core part. The optical fiber strand is characterized in that, in the clad part, the radial distribution S(r) of the residual stress in the optical axis direction of the outermost clad layer is a tensile stress in the almost entire region in the radial direction and that it is reduced from the inner periphery to the circumference. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
