PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, in which an optimal mode can be easily decided easily, by forming images of particular areas (monitor images) to which processing is applied with a plurality of image quality mode setting at different positions on the same paper so as to recognize an image for each mode, at a glance. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a particular area setting unit for setting the arbitrary area of a document image as a particular area; and when a particular area is specified, an image processing unit (scanner/IPU section) receives image data for the particular area and generates a plurality of monitor image data, having been subjected to image processing by setting a different image quality mode for each particular area. Further, an image forming unit (printer section) receives the plurality of monitor image data and forms a plurality of monitor images on the same transfer material, by arranging the monitor images at different positions on the transfer material.
