PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balance weight device of an elevator enabling the easy change of its overall weight according to the weight of a car even after an elevator apparatus is installed. SOLUTION: This balance weight of the elevator comprises a frame suspended by the main rope of the elevator, a plurality of weight increasing/decreasing weights installed in the frame, and guide devices fitted to both upper and lower end parts of the frame and engaged with a guide rail for balance weight vertically installed in a hoistway. The frame comprises an upper frame and a lower frame formed so that their mounting positions can be vertically altered according to the weight increasing/decreasing weights installed in the frame.
