PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus capable of carrying out display with small distortion without the need for carrying out letter BOX display even when a video signal whose aspect ratio is either of two different aspect ratios is received. SOLUTION: The display apparatus is provided with; a conversion section 2 that converts a received video signal S1 whose image size is expressed as an aspect ratio of 4:3 or the other aspect ratio of 16:9 into a video signal S2 whose image size is expressed as an aspect ratio of, e.g. 14:9 being nearly a median between the aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9; and a video display section 3 including a screen whose aspect ratio is about 14:9 and for displaying the video signal S2 converted by the conversion section 2 on the screen.
