PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit with which a desired illuminance distribution and a desired light distribution can be obtained. SOLUTION: In an image reader equipped with a light source having a cold-cathode tube 25 and an LED array 26, the LED array 26 sets an illuminance distribution of individual LEDs so that an illuminance characteristic distribution of the cold-cathode tube 25 is interpolated. The illuminance distribution is set by adjusting the size, array intervals, luminance, spectral characteristics, etc., of the LEDs, and these objects to be adjusted can be combined.
