PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine cooling device securing performance warming up oil when an engine is cold and performance cooling oil when the engine is hot. SOLUTION: A cross flow type in-line multi-cylinder engine mounted in a rearward exhaust rearward slant style, having an exhaust side put in a thrust side and having an oil return passage formed in a cylinder block and an exhaust side sidewall of a cylinder head is provided with a cooling device provided with a block cooling passage communicating to a cooling water flow in port provided in a block one end side, extending along the exhaust side sidewall and extending along an intake side sidewall through a block another end side to reach the block one end side, a first communication passage reaching the head one end side from the block cooling passage in the block one end side and exhaust side at an upstream position of the block cooling passage, a second communication passage reaching the head one end side from the block cooling passage in the block one end side and intake side at a downstream position of the block cooling passage, and a head cooling passage communicating to the first and the second communication passage and extending to the head another end side from the head one end side.
