PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a difluoromethanesulfonamide derivative highly active as an active ingredient of a herbicide. SOLUTION: The difluoromethanesulfonamide derivative is represented by formula (I) and is used as a paddy herbicide. In formula (I), X is a halogen; Y is CH or N; R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen; and R<SP>2</SP>is hydrogen or hydroxy, provided that R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may be combined with each other to form C=O together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded.
