摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert an input signal from analog to digital comprehensivelywith high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: An ADGC device 30 which avoids some of the requirements associated with the property of a closed-loop AGC circuit and which meets the remaining requirements without much difficulty. The ADGC device 30 uses an analog to digital conversion method that increases the number of effective bit number of ADC by compressing the baseband input analog signal using a logarithmic circuit 34. After the compressed analog signal is converted into a digital signal, a digital anti-log processing or look-up table LUT42 is used to expand the digital signal back to the original linear scale. The word size of the output of the anti-log processing is larger than the input word size due to the nature of the anti-log function.
