PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating method for a glass preform capable of shortening a heating time and lessening the consumption of both oxygen and hydrogen by attaining good combustion efficiency of hydrogen using a multi-nozzle burner having a plurality of ports for oxygen. SOLUTION: This heating method for the glass preform comprises regulating a ratio of the sum of outlet cross-sectional area of the ports 2a for hydrogen to that of the ports 3a for oxygen to be within the range of 2-24 when heating and flame-polishing the glass preform G using the multi-nozzle burner 1 having a plurality of the ports 3a for oxygen.
