PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce image distortion produced toward an image formation objective domain in a sub scanning direction. SOLUTION: A driving radius, where a driving roll drives an intermediate transfer belt so that a distance by which the intermediate transfer belt is transported when a driving roll for driving the intermediate transfer belt rotates once and a length of the image formation objective domain in the sub scanning direction established on a recording medium becomes the same, is denoted by r<SB>0</SB>. When X denotes a ratio of the driving radius r<SB>0</SB>to an optional driving radius r' where the driving roll drives an intermediate transfer belt, image distortion toward the image formation objective domain due to eccentricity of the driving roll or the like is proportional to a value of sin2πX and hence a rotation period of the driving roll for driving the intermediate transfer belt is made to be about one fraction of integer-section of time when the image formation objective domain of the intermediate transfer belt passes a fixed point.
