PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing, in a high yield, 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-biphenyldiamine which has little coloration and can be used as a raw material of a polyimide resin for an electronic material. SOLUTION: The 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-biphenyldiamine is prepared by reducing 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-dinitrobiphenyl with hydrazines in a solvent such as an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst comprising a group 8-10 metal in the periodic table, such as a palladium catalyst.
