PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent having a function for selectively adsorbing an oxygen-containing organic compound having a carbon-oxygen bond in its molecular structure. SOLUTION: The adsorbent of the oxygen-containing organic compound is characterized in that its adsorbing function based on the chemical interaction with the carbon-oxygen bond, which is present in the oxygen-containing organic compound, for example, an aldehyde group, a ketone group, an ester bond, an amide bond, a carboxyl group, an alcohol bond and an ether bond in common, is generally developed by introducing a metal species present as a six-coordination species into the skeleton structure of a material comprising a silicate, phosphate and a phosphonate.
