A bite block assembly for use during a diagnostic, surgical or other medical procedure is disclosed. This device includes a bite block body for insertion into the mouth of a patient containing two passageways, the first, a through passageway, positioned to receive a medical instrument to be inserted into the patient, the second, an air-sampling passageway, provides a pathway for exhaled air to exit the mouth of the patient. The air-sampling passageway is constructed to receive a gas sampling tube partially disposed in the air-sampling passageway or completely disposed in the air-sampling passageway. The gas sampling tube connects a respiratory cannula with gas sampling port, located on the face of the patient to the air-sampling passageway of the bite block. |
