The folding mechanism has two parallel-arranged even hinged joints separated by a distance. A U-shaped or tubular furniture element (1) is first element of hinged joint (4). Recess (2) is provided on the wall of first furniture element for at least one area of folded second element (3). Back stop (5) is provided on second element and is not in folded state in the area of inner wall of first furniture element.
