The invention relates to a method for implementing an optical transmission link and to an optical data transmission system. A first set of optical signals at mutually different wavelengths is transmitted from the first end of the optical fiber, and a second set of optical signals at mutually different wavelengths from the other end of the optical fiber. To improve the cost-effectiveness of the network, the same wavelengths are used in the first set and in the second set, and additionally a bidirectional phase conjugator (OPC) is used on the fiber, changing each wavelength arriving at the phase conjugator to a given wavelength going out from the phase conjugator by folding the incoming wavelength relative a given predetermined fold wavelength, whereby signals are received at both ends of the fiber at the same wavelengths that are said wavelengths going out from the phase conjugator. |
