<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal apparatus capable of high contrast display in any display mode of transmissive display or reflective display as a transflective liquid crystal display apparatus, and to provide an electronic instrument equipped with the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal apparatus has a liquid crystal layer of a nematic liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy held between a pair of substrates, and the apparatus is characterized in that: the region used for display in the liquid crystal layer comprises regions of at least two kinds of liquid crystal layer thicknesses; each region with different layer thickness from others is used for either a reflective display unit or a transmissive display unit; the reflective display unit is provided with a reflecting means; and a transparent resin layer is formed in a part not corresponding to the transmissive display unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
