<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To orient a rod-formed liquid crystal compound vertically substantially up to a boundary with air without using any vertically orienting film. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal film is provided by homeotropically orienting a pyridinium compound wherein a 1-30C monovalent group having a 5- or 6-membered ring as a partial structure is bonded with the nitrogen atom of its pyridinium ring through a divalent linking group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
