PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly bring a pattern formed surface of a mold into pressure contact with the surface to be imprinted of a magnetic recording medium over the entire surfaces for forming a pattern shape which is uniform and has excellent reliability, in a process for performing patterning of a fine shape on a discrete track medium and a patterned medium using an imprint technique. SOLUTION: In the process for transferring a shape pattern on the surface to be imprinted by bringing the mold having a specified shape pattern into pressure contact with the surface to be imprinted on a substrate, at least a part of the surface to be imprinted is made to be roughened before the mold is brought into pressure contact with the surface to be imprinted.
