PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the pull of recording sheets to each other after loop is eliminated by providing a clearance allowing driven rotation. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder is a rotation transmission mechanism transmitting the rotation of a pre-register roll driving motor to a pre-register roll. When the recording sheets are deflected, the rotation of the pre-register roll driving motor is transmitted to a pre-register roll. In the rotation transmission mechanism, when the deflection of the recording paper is eliminated and the recording paper is moved at a higher speed than the rotational speed thereof by the pre-register roll driving motor, the pre-register roll is rotated following the movement of the recording sheets, and a tension for lowering the sheet feeding speed of the register roll is prevented to act on the recording sheets by a driven rotation allowing clearance (θ) or a one-way clutch.
