PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure detection device of a four-wheel drive vehicle capable of surely avoiding misdetection due to response delay and rapid variation of a wheel speed at the time of switching an accelerating device. SOLUTION: This failure detection device of a four-wheel drive vehicle transmits a drive force of an engine 3 directly to main drive wheels WFL, WFR, transmits it to auxiliary drive wheels WRL, WRR via clutches 23, 23, and detects failure of an accelerating device 8 for increasing rotation speeds VRL, VRR of the auxiliary drive wheels more than rotation speeds VFL, VFR of the main drive wheels. The device comprises a failure detection means 30 for detecting failure of the accelerating device 8, and a failure detection banning means 30 for banning detection of failure with the failure detection means till a predetermined time FZAKCMG has elapsed after accelerating command signals CF_SFTSL are outputted, or after output of accelerating command signals CF_SFTSL is stopped.
