<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detecting movement in which movement of a plurality of detection objects can be detected individually while reducing the amount of operation, and to provide a monitoring system for vehicle employing it. <P>SOLUTION: Based on an input image from an imaging apparatus 3 and a preset background image, a binarization image consisting of an object region having a variation for the background image and an invariant background region is generated for every frame (S120), and then an overlap region where the object region is kept as it is with no variation, an increase region where the background region changed into the object region, and a decrease region where the object region changed into the background region are extracted by comparing the binarization images between frames (S130). An increase region, a decrease region, and an overlap region contiguous to each other are then extracted as one integration region, region parameters (area, sum of X coordinate, sum of Y coordinate) are determined, respectively, for the extracted integration region, the increase region and the decrease region (S140), and then movement of an object (object region) indicated in that integration region is determined for every integration region based on the region parameters (S150). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
