<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an electrode of a fine structure using a lanthane-gallate based material as an oxygen ion conductor and accomplish efficiency of an electrochemical reaction. <P>SOLUTION: This is an electrochemical cell constructed of a solid electrolyte layer comprising an ion conductor and an electrode provided on its both sides. The cathode electrode is composed of a porous mixed body of the ion conductor 5 and an electron conductor 6 and insulating ceramic particulates 8 are filled in the gap 7 of the porous mixed body. Thereby, the cathode electrode of fine structure can be obtained and decomposition and purification of nitrogen oxide by electrochemical reaction under the existence of oxygen can be performed highly efficiently.
