PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gold fine particle assembly which exhibits a high third-order nonlinear susceptibility over a wide wavelength region. SOLUTION: The gold fine particle assembly is made by bonding a plurality of nano-size gold fine particles to each other in chain-like, wherein, when the entire shape of the assembly is set to be long and narrow, an axis-dependence appears in the propagation mode of light and the surface plasmon resonance in accordance with the length of a major axis is generated.
