PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a power distribution time to a solenoid, to save electric power and to elongate service life, when a switching valve device having the solenoid is used to change spring force of a gas spring. SOLUTION: In this gas spring 10 wherein a communication passage 25 communicating two gas chambers 23A, 23B is opened and closed by a switching valve device 30, the switching valve device 30 switches off the solenoid 33A after a valve 31 is closed by switching on the solenoid 33A, and a closed state of the valve 31 is kept by gas pressure of a piston-side gas chamber 23A of a cylinder 11.
