PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printed circuit board surface-mounted device allowing the device itself to be smoothly connected to a printed circuit board with low shock.

SOLUTION: This device comprises a housing 14 and a plurality of contacts 12. In the device, the distance between the region at which the pad-engaging portion 12a of each contact engages its respective pad 8, and the region of the fulcrum 13 about which the contact deflects, is maximized to reduce the magnitude of the biasing force resulting from the deflection. A mounting element for the device comprising a post 56 is arranged in the device. The post has tongues that are deflected to allow the post to be inserted into an opening of the circuit board that is a hole 9 and which skive into the sides of the opening to prevent the post from retraction therefrom. The device may include a pair of positioning posts 102 and 104 having polygonal cross-sections. The positioning posts are so formed as to have maximum cross-sectional dimensions in mutually orthogonal directions.
