PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed EL element used for input operations and the like of various electronic devices, and a thin illuminated switch unit using the same. SOLUTION: On a temporary substrate 21, a short bar contact 31, an insulation layer 42, a rear electrode layer 43, a dielectric layer 44, a light emission layer 45, a light transmissive electrode layer 46, and a protective insulation layer 47 are sequentially overlapped for printing. At the time of use, these layers are integrally peeled off the temporary substrate 21 to make the distributed EL element 41 having no substrate which is bonded to a wiring board 71 equipped with an interdigital contact 61 corresponding to the short bar contact 31 to constitute the illuminated switch unit 51, whereby the thinly constituted one is easily obtained.
