PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a target detection rate through the use of received data from targets captured by sidelobes. SOLUTION: This multibeam sonar includes an oscillator 1 for generating transmission signals of different frequencies; a transmission directivity synthesizer 2 for forming multibeams through the use of the different transmission signals; a transducer 4 for converting transmission signals from the transmission directivity synthesizer 2 into sound, transmitting it, receiving echoes reflected at a target 7, and outputting reception signals; a switcher 3 for switching between transmission signals and reception signals; a reception directivity synthesizer 5 for inputting reception signals and forming receive beams; and a reception processor 6 for separating reception signals output from the reception directivity synthesizer 5 into reception signals of different frequencies, determining the correlation among the separated different reception signals, and outputting correlation values. The main lobe of one beam among the multibeams is directed at a target bearing, and the sidelobes of the remaining beams among the multibeams are directed at target bearings.
