Loads such as rolled carpets 1 are lifted vertically and conveyed horizontally into a storage structure 2 by means of a lift truck as described and claimed in Specification 991,871, the loads being handled throughout storage on load boards 6 each consisting of a flat board secured to frame members 8, 9, 10 ( Fig. 3, not shown). A lug 18, carried by an endless conveyer chain 17 on the lift truck is engageable with the ends 9 of the load boards to move them over rollers (not shown) on the truck and on to rollers 4 in the storage structure. The storage shelves may slope downwardly away from the truck. Provided the shelves are level, there may be a structure 2 on each of two opposite sides of the track. |
