<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer input method having an operability close to a pointing device by manual operation such as a mouse so that operation of a computer can be easily performed even by a hand- or leg-handicapped person or even in the case that manual operation cannot be performed. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, a camera 10 capable of taking moving pictures and a computer 2 storing images taken by the camera 10 in a predetermined period are provided, and image information of a person's face caught by the camera 10 is scanned while comparing with a template 16 fitted to the range of the size of the iris 18 of the eye 15. The gray scales of images of the iris 18 part of the eye 15 and the other part of the face are detected to determine the position of the eye 15, and the area of the iris 18 in the position of the eye 15 is determined.
