<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the first print time by implementing phase adjustment processing promptly after the startup of a motor. <P>SOLUTION: The multicolor image forming apparatus is equipped with a means having a plurality of rotating bodies for carrying images and a plurality of motors for driving these rotating bodies and detecting the reference position detecting members prepared in the rotating bodies, a means for detecting the rotation of the motor, a motor control means for performing the speed control and position control to the motor, and a means for detecting the phase differences of the respective rotating bodies from the detection results of the members to be detected which are prepared in the respective rotating bodies and the results of the speed detecting means and is provided with a control means for adjusting the phase differences of the rotating bodies.
