摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the technique of detecting the position of the pupil 12 of an eyeball 10, the technique with which the eyeball 10 is irradiated with emitting light and the reflected light from the eyeball is used. <P>SOLUTION: In order to accurately detect the position of the pupil 12 using the distribution characteristics of reflectivity on the surface of the eyeball 10, a luminous flux with which the surface of the eyeball is to be irradiated is scanned in a two-dimensional way in a scanning area set on the surface of the eyeball so as to have an area including the pupil and being larger than the pupil. The intensity of the luminous flux reflected during scanning is detected as the intensity of reflected luminous flux, and a signal indicating the intensity of the reflected luminous flux detected is outputted. Further, the position of the pupil is detected in a two-dimensional way based upon a change in the intensity of the reflected luminous flux intensity, indicated by the output signal, according to a position on each scanning line, and a change corresponding to the position of each scanning line. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
