PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optic modulation element which gives a balanced polarization state of light and avoid temperature dependence even when an electro-optic crystal of an anisotropic medium is used. SOLUTION: When light is made to enter perpendicularly into an entrance plane parallel to a plane which produces a circle as a common part 3 with the index ellipsoid having the principal refractive index of the electro-optic crystal as a radius, the light equally changes in the X axis direction and the y axis direction by the principal refractive index b corresponding to the radius of the circle in the figure.
