摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To early or promptly increase bed temperature of a reforming catalyst to predetermined active temperature. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine is provided with an exhaust path 3 for exhausting exhaust gas discharged from each of cylinders 1a to 1d to outside; an exhaust gas branch path 13 for branching at least part of exhaust gas flowing on the exhaust path 3; a fuel supply device 14 capable of supplying fuel to inside of the exhaust gas branch path 13; a reformer 12 for generating reformed gas by inflow of exhaust gas on the exhaust gas branch path 13 and fuel supplied from the fuel supply device 14 to the exhaust gas; a reformed gas introducing path 15 for introducing the reformed gas generated in the reformer 12 to an intake path 2; and a control device 4 for making each of the cylinders 1a to 1d perform lean combustion and making the fuel supply device 14 inject fuel, when the bed temperature of the reforming catalyst carried in the reformer 12 is below the predetermined active temperature or when the bed temperature becomes in a predetermined active temperature boundary.
