PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for realizing protecting effects on ultraviolet light in a form independent of an ultraviolet light absorber such as benzophenone or a cinnamic ester in an external preparation for skin such as an ultraviolet protective cosmetic. SOLUTION: The external preparation for skin comprises (1) clay modified with a compound having a quaternary ammonium group and (2) hiding powder. The clay constituting the clay modified with the compound having the quaternary amino group is preferably bentonite, montmorillonite or kaolinite and the compound having the quaternary amino group is preferably dimethylstearylammonium chloride.
