Production of micro- or nano-particles from one or more substances (especially lipids) involves (A) simultaneously compressing and cooling the substance in the gaseous phase; and (B) separating the micro- or nano-particles from the obtained aerosol. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for manufacture of the micro- or nano-particles comprising an evaporator (1) connected via its outlet to a coolable compressor (6) whose outlet is, in turn, connected to separation unit (11, 12, 13) for the particles.
