The crash bar (14) is connected to a fixed support (16) of the vehicle by at least one assembly, including a fluid-driven turbine (20) supported on the support. It longitudinally displaces the crash bar, and a driven part (22) connected to the crash bar. The turbine is coupled to the part by device (24) which transforms a rotational movement into a movement which longitudinally displaces the part between normal position of the beam and deployment of the crash bar. The turbine is driven in a first direction by a fluid jet to deploy the part and in the opposite direction by an electric motor (74), controlled by a unit (72), so as to displace the part to its normal position. As an alternative two fluid jets may be used to advance and retard the part.
