<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine capable of determining degree of clogging of an exhaust particulate collector without providing the exhaust particulate collector with a special pressure detection means. <P>SOLUTION: In the engine provided with a supercharger controlling charge pressure to a target by an exhaust turbine provided with a variable nozzle, degree of clogging of the exhaust particulate collector is determined by opening of the variable nozzle.
