PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a riverbed block for purifying water quality excellent in the efficiency, capacity and durability of water quality purification per unit space, and sufficiently economical for practical application. SOLUTION: It is a porous square cubic body with its top surface protruding upward. Provided as a riverbed block for purifying water quality, this porous body consists of many porous particles each having many fine pores and combined with other particles by cement into a sponge-like form containing the meshes of clearances larger than the fine pores of the particles communicating with one another. More preferably, a riverbed block for purifying water quality of this construction, additionally having a recess on the top face of the body which communicates with lateral hollows for passing water on the sides of the body is provided.
